Tuning Options for Volvo Drive-E: Denso VEA Gen2 ECUs Are Now Supported!
New Capabilities from GeneTiC Motorsport for Volvo Drive-E: Denso VEA Gen2 ECUs
GeneTiC Motorsport is expanding its services for Volvo vehicles by introducing support for Denso VEA Gen2 engine control units (ECUs) equipped with the SPC5777M processor. Our genuine tuning tools now allow for operations in "Bench" mode, with OBD access becoming available following an initial unlock procedure.
This opens up new possibilities for diagnostics, software solutions, and engine optimization across a range of models in the Volvo Drive-E lineup.
What does this new support entail?
The Denso VEA Gen2 ECU utilizes a Freescale SPC5777M processor. Previously, these units were difficult to read and write. Thanks to a new AutoTuner protocol, operations in Bench mode are now supported; furthermore, once the unit has been unlocked, OBD mode can also be used.
For vehicles equipped with a Secure Gateway (SGW), Bench mode may be the preferred option, as it helps avoid lengthy read and write procedures via the OBD port.
Which Volvo models are covered?
This support covers various ECU versions within the Denso VEA Gen2 family, including ECM-EAA, ECM-EBA, ECM-HAA, ECM-DAA, ECM-DAB, ECM-DBA, and ECM-GAA. The models listed include:
Passenger cars and station wagons: S60, S80, S90, V40, V60, V70, and V90
SUVs and crossovers: XC40, XC60, XC70, and XC90
Various diesel, gasoline, and hybrid engines from the B, D, and T series are supported. Compatibility depends on the specific vehicle and the installed ECU; therefore, verification is required before starting work.
How does the process work?
Initial access is performed in "Bench" mode. Once unlocked (a one-time procedure), OBD procedures can be used, provided the specific configuration allows for it.
The read process includes calibration data and the ASW (Application Software). Reading takes approximately 10–20 minutes, while writing typically takes less than 5 minutes. When writing via an OBD patch, the procedure may take around 5–10 minutes. NO NEED TO OPEN THE ENGINE CONTROL UNITS (ECUs)!
Important note regarding VEA Gen3
Some vehicles are equipped with newer ECUs featuring additional security measures—referred to as "VEA Gen3." These versions are not currently included in this new support offering. While AutoTuner can identify the ECU generation via OBD, compatibility must be confirmed for each specific vehicle.
New service from GeneTiC Motorsport
With these new capabilities, GeneTiC Motorsport now offers specialized work on Denso VEA Gen2 engine control units for compatible Volvo models. The service may include an ECU check, reading and writing of the software, as well as optimization solutions tailored to the specific vehicle and the client's goals.
We currently offer solutions for:
- STAGE 1
- DPF
- EGR
- SCR / AdBlue
Before writing any data, we inspect the vehicle and its configuration to identify the exact ECU generation and the appropriate method for the procedure.
Contact GeneTiC Motorsport; based on your Volvo’s model, year, and engine, we will verify compatibility and the available options for software optimization.
